The Traveling Foodie: A Tale of Love, Food Trucks, and Etiquette

Food, Travel, Culture, Love

You can't have a conversation about street cuisine without mentioning the allure of food truck fare. Armed with a mobile kitchen and an arsenal of eclectic menus, these dining establishments on wheels have recreated the street food industry. As I navigated through the bustling streets of Manila, Bangkok, and Jakarta, I experienced a smorgasbord of delightful flavours, unique to their localities. However, it was in Hyderabad, the City of Pearls, that I found my culinary jackpot, Biryani!

The love story between Hyderabad and Biryani dates back hundreds of years - a bond forged by the magic of fragrant rice and succulent meat, spiced to perfection. This dish is synonymous with Hyderabadi heritage, a testament to the culinary prowess of the Nizams. It was during my Biryani escapade, that I got into a spiced-up situation with a local Hyderabadi woman.

10 Things to avoid when dating a Woman from Hyderabad

  1. Never criticize Biryani: This is akin to blasphemy. The love for Biryani is real and deep. Keep your taste preferences to yourself! ...

As I indulged in my gastronomic pursuits, I couldn't overlook the pressing dialogue around food and climate change. Food production accounts for approximately one-quarter of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions. Meanwhile, food waste, if it were a country, would be the third largest emitter of greenhouse gases. I started to ponder - can you travel, eat, love, and be conscious about your carbon footprint at the same time?

This led me to local food markets, where sustainability is the norm, not the exception. These markets promote local organic produce, inherently reducing the carbon footprint associated with food miles. It made me realise how food, travel, and love could coexist harmoniously amid our growing climate concerns.

Weaving through a food journey comes with its own set of unofficial rules, like a special form of etiquette. Here, I present to you, dear reader, some golden nuggets on street food etiquette:

  1. Observe first: Watch others, it's the best way to learn the process. ...

Food, love, climate change- it's incredible how each element traverses boundaries, mingles with local cultures, and marries beautifully with ethics. In the end, we are all travelling foodies, wanderers without borders. Stay tuned as we journey through the heart of Asia and its vibrant culinary landscape!
